Ki Poomsae
Koryo Poomsae

Taekwondo Poomsae are a set series of moves of attack and defence against an imaginary opponent or opponents. Each rank or belt that a student attains leads him or her to studying a new poomsae for the next rank. For the lower grade students below Black Belt there are the WTF Tageuk patterns 1-8 jang. For the Black Belts there are the Poomsae Koryo - Ilyo, 9 patterns in all.

Master Blomeley believes that the Poomsae also contain hidden information or pressure point work that enhances self defence for the student. Within the Poomsae are locks, holds, throws, weapon defence and takedowns plus point work. This side of the art is rarely taught and hence gives reason why there is a time period between learning the next pattern and whilst learning the outward moves of the form, one should also try and exhaust the defensive possibilities that a particular movement or set of movements can contain. This should lead to a greater depth of knowledge within the art of Taekwondo
